Timeline
Project Vision
The Animal Shelter Renovation project will create a modern, expanded space for animal shelter operations. The building will be located at the intersection of Pine and Patterson Streets near downtown Pleasant Hill. Planned improvements improve animal enclosures and isolation areas, water access, wash areas, medicine storage, and separate public and staff areas from the enclosures. The improvements will also comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and improve the exterior visual appearance, creating a clear identity as a shelter.
The original concept included an expanded renovation and operation in the existing building; but the pricing of the renovations coupled with the need for phasing and elevation to meet flood plain requirements would have been more expensive than new construction.
The guaranteed maximum price contract includes a number of designed renderings as construction documents are finalized. The City and the architect may further refine these drawings, but the contract award at minimum will have the following design.

Building Layout
The original project concept renovated the existing building on Patterson Street and having the Animal Shelter occupy a majority of the building. During the design phase, the costs of doing so were determined to be more expensive than new construction. Below are the original renderings that were presented to the voters for consideration.
